WATFORD Council wants to support more people to consider getting an electric vehicle with several schemes, including cars that the public can hire.

As part of its commitment to support green transport, Watford Borough Council is working in partnership with E-Car Club to offer residents electric vehicles for hire from the town centre.

Two electric Renault ZOE 40KwH hatchbacks are parked in the Watford Town Hall car park and a Nissan Leaf is parked at Avenue Car Park.

They can be booked for an hour or several days at a time.

The E-Car can be booked for £6.50 per hour and £60 per day with unlimited mileage, power and insurance included.

The Office for Low Emissions Vehicles is offering financial support to householders and businesses across the UK for the installation of electric vehicle chargepoints with two grant schemes that aim to encourage the take up of electric vehicle use.

The Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) provides grant funding of up to 75% (up to a maximum of £500) towards the cost of installing electric vehicle chargepoints at households across the UK.

The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a voucher-based scheme that provides support towards the up-front costs of the purchase and installation of electric vehicle charge-points, for eligible businesses, charities and public sector organisations.

In both schemes the work must be carried out by an approved installer.
